What is Sleep Training?
Does your baby wake throughout the night and require soothing from you in order to fall asleep again? While adults are typically wired to sleep at wake at similar times each day, babies have no sense yet of what sleeping pattern they should be following. Sleep training is the process of teaching your baby when to sleep and how to sleep – eventually getting them to the point where they can do it without any help from the parent.
Most babies are not ready for sleep training until 4-5 months of age. After this point, a child can begin sleep training at any time, pending that the parents are ready. In order for sleep training to be effective, parents must be willing to strongly commit to a training plan for 2-4 weeks. This will not necessarily be easy, but it is crucial to commit to the process in order to see results.
